The appliances we use to create and access information continue to reach a mind-blowing level of ubiquity. This fact presents new and exciting challenges for Interaction Designers, as we create information experiences that balance visceral, behavioral and reflective attributes—all the while knowing that people will try to access that information on the device closest to their hand.

Through my research, experience, and casual reading I have repeatedly felt the epiphany that I chose the most exciting and influential profession of my generation. It feels weird to throw this out so casually knowing that an Environmental Scientist solving the "climate change" problem is out there thinking the same thing, but we all know their research and communication will occur on machines, with user interfaces, that visualize data.

The challenges I personally face in the future are based partially on my known current limitations, and the limitations of current technology:

  • Create experiences that make people tingle from the base of their spine to the top of their head
  • Leverage a standardized technology to its full potential and doing it so well that other Designers feel light-headed and confused, then figure out how it was done, in turn inspiring them to innovate and influence others as well

I can't predict the future, but I know I want to help make it beautiful, and less complex than it's trying to become.
